Frequently asked questions regarding Maria Goretti Nursing Home

What is the length of time someone can stay?
We try and facilitate families where possible for long or short-term stays and have a daily rate should the need arise for a short interim period


Can you facilitate residents with Dementia?
Yes. A pre-assessment would take place prior to admission by the DON and ADON to ensure we can care for the person to the highest standard.


Is it possible for families to share special occasions with their loved ones?
Yes, we will try and facilitate where possible and family members are always welcome to join in celebrations for special birthdays.


Can we take a resident out for a special occasion?
Yes, we try and organise with the family if they need assistance on the day and we can provide a carer to attend with the resident to give one-to-one care for the event.


Are there Laundry facilities available?
Yes, we have laundry facilities available on-site.


Can you accommodate Special Dietary requirements i.e. Celiac and Diabetic?
Yes. We have a highly trained team who understand and have been fully trained in all aspects of dietary requirements, and textures and we can facilitate all dietary requirements.


What kind of patients does Maria Goretti Nursing Home Care For?
We cater for long and short-term residents, including those requiring dementia, respite, convalescent care and more. Please contact us to discuss your individual needs.


What are the bedrooms like?
We have 25 private and 13 semi-private rooms, all fully furnished. All rooms are en-suite and generously sized and include a telephone, TV and a nurse call system.


Can I bring personal furniture and items into my room?
Yes, residents are encouraged to bring in personal items to personalise their surroundings and bedrooms.


When can my family and friends visit?
Visiting is welcome however we do try to protect mealtimes to ensure privacy and dignity are given to all our residents.


Are children allowed into the Nursing Home?
Yes, we welcome all your family and friends at any time; we have beautiful grounds and gardens with seating areas and indoor facilities for you to spend with your loved ones.


Is a Doctor available in an emergency?
Yes. Emergency cover is available through the Shannon Doc Service.


Are there other medical services available eg, Dentist, Physiotherapist, Chiropodist?
There is a range of professional services available to residents. When requested or required, our staff are only too willing to help organise a suitable appointment time for you.


Do you have a hairdresser who visits the Nursing Home?
Yes, we have a Garda vetted hairdresser who comes in weekly. To have your hair done, just speak with the nurse on duty.

If you need to make a complaint about any aspect of the service at Maria Goretti, please talk to the nurse on duty, the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing or any member of the management team. If you want to make a complaint in writing you may do so by email to pic@mgnh.ie
